Heritage House founders and owners David & Cheri Savage met in Dallas, Texas, where David was starting his long career in the restaurant business. It was there that they started their first restaurant together, called "Our House."

In 1986, they brought their young family back to David's native Skowhegan, where they found David's grandfather's house sitting empty.

Inspiration struck, and with a few renovations, the lovely 19th century family home became the "Heritage House" in 1987 -- a tribute to the heritage of family ties and traditions that are so important to the Savage family.

The three small, elegant dining rooms at the front of the restaurant offer a quiet, intimate dining experience. For a romantic evening, our patrons love the small tables in the elegant window alcoves.

For larger functions, the Stable Room (converted from the original barn at the back of the house) can be reserved for parties of up to 50 people.

The restaurant is "family owned" in the most authentic way possible:  Over the years, all four of David and Cheri's children have worked at the restaurant. Their nieces and nephews also worked there -- some following in David & Cheri's footsteps by pursuing careers in hospitality.

A number of the original staff is still with the restaurant: Chef Robert McGowan started with the restaurant in 1987, and still creates his culinary masterpieces today, over 30 years later. And many of our guests -- whom we consider our "extended family" -- have been faithful patrons since we first opened our doors.

While David is no longer with us, Cheri continues to keep the Heritage House traditions alive with the same warm hospitality, enticing menu, and charming, elegant decor for which the Heritage House is known throughout Maine and beyond.

We invite you to join the Heritage House family; to experience our traditions, savor our dishes, and become part of our heritage. . .
